A documentary series about the world’s most famous palaces.
Un week-end au Palais Rambagh, Jaipur, Rajasthan
The 19th century Rambagh Palace was built in the tradition of the Mughal warriors. In this episode we get to meet the Maharajah who played under the palace arches as a boy. The pillars of these arches are made out of the same marble that was used to build the Taj Mahal mausoleum in Delhi. So when changes need to be made in the hotel it is not a matter of renovation but of restoration. Polo matches still take place within this dreamlike scenery. The hotel’s park is the ideal ground for the sport of kings and the world’s best players come here to play. The timeless atmosphere of the hotel is also a good excuse to examine Jaipur’s history and harks back to a time when the Maharajah would offer his Maharani costumes made out of diamonds and emeralds.
