In June 1914, Sarah Bernhardt took a holiday in Belle-Ile-en-Mer. Accompanied by a glamorous crowd, the actress intended to make the most of her free time to work on her next role. Her arrival was always an event in itself for the residents of the island Mademoiselle regularly visited. She particularly liked going out riding with her horse, Hippolyte, whom she was eager to see.
