Available twenty-fours a day, seven days a week, they are emergency vets. A cat that falls from the 4th floor, a puppy that chokes on a sponge, a young lady who is panic-stricken because a "lump" is growing under her rat's stomach... These situations, sometimes serious, often comical, are the daily fare of Christophe, aged 35, a home-call vet. Day and night, this emergency "addict" criss-crosses Paris and its suburbs, answering the calls of anxious owners. Angélique, aged 28, is learning to look after animals and reassure owners. A young intern, on the verge of exhaustion, she provides emergency cover at the Animal Hospital in Meaux. Oncology, cardiology, ophthalmology, in this high-tech establishment, the animals are looked after like humans. Between emotion and suspense, relief and despair, this documentary offers a thrilling adventure in the wake of these lifesavers... Directed by: Sylviane Schmitt, 2009. Country: France

Luxurious residences, the châteaus are part of France's history. But beyond Versailles and other great palaces, this documentary series allows us to discover these family châteaus in the presence of their owners. 13/20 Château de Milandes, Dordogne, region Aquitaine Built in 1489 by François de Caumont, Lord of Castelnaud, at his wife Claude de Cardillas' request, this Renaissance chateau enjoys an amazing view over the Dordogne Valley. It was purchased in 1947 by Josephine Baker, who transformed it into the home she had always dreamt about as a little girl. The décor was completely redesigned. She brought in numerous artists and decorators, and left her own mark on Milandes. Often, situations or events that have an impact on us have their roots in the nature of our environment. The "Chacun sa terre" series focuses on the different ways in which we interact with this environment: we bear its consequences, we adapt to it, we exploit, customize or transform it, sometimes we may protect it - without exception we know it well. Sometimes, an environment has preserved a culture or a community. Most often though, it is man who has succeeded in mastering it and extracting its riches, in some cases however also causing harm or affliction.

It looks like an open penknife mounted on eight legs: big as a plate, covered with a red shell and armed like a gladiator. But don't be fooled by appearances. These terrestrial crabs are particularly peace-loving and rare. Except on Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean, where they're everywhere. Numbers are estimated at no less than 120 million individuals! The British scientist Steve Morris attempted to keep track of six of them for a month. Using an emitter attached to the shells of the crabs he sought to understand how they find their way from the equatorial forest to the water's edge, where they go every year during the reproductive season. This is a dangerous journey across steep rocks, fields, roads and gardens. A journey during which they brave cars, famished giant crabs and venomous ants .... Directed by Ines Possemeyer, 2006. At the same time glamorous and loaded with history, the beaches also tell the story of a country's evolution, of the mass tourists privileged enough to be the first to swim in the sea. Russians who tan standing up, Chinese who can't swim, nature and nudist fanatics in Germany, family gatherings in Italy, veiled women in the sea in Pakistan... "Everybody at the beach" is an original guide to better understand the different social codes of the world.

During the 13th century, Marguerite de Bourgogne, (Queen of France and granddaughter of St-Louis) stayed here often. The Château de Couches today belongs to the Cayot family who have fully renovated it, and turned it into an extremely attractive residence.

Mac Orlan places exploring people's memories above the search for evidence. A witness glimpsed the killer: Hugues Saint-Martin, an Attorney General's prosecutor. Both men knew each other. They had even been friends - a friendship which began at university.

The novelty will soon wear off! In the 1950's, the hotel industry in Quebec underwent rapid expansion. For some, this new way form of accommodation allowed them to discover the province and supported the emergence of a tourist industry that is typical of Quebec. For others, this new type of establishment represented a good opportunity to start up a business. On the roadsides of Quebec, more and more signs with varying shapes and names sprang up. Sometimes bright and flamboyant, sometimes drab and cheap, the motel thus took on a thousand faces and incarnated well the different facets of post-war America. Directed by: Mathieu Fontaine, 2008. The history of the behaviour of male and female politicians is rich with sudden revivals, transformations and details. The presentation of the self over time clearly shows how our societies have changed. From the earliest of times, when smiling was forbidden, when you had to show your rigour and your seriousness by having an austere-looking bearing, today we have got close to citizens through empathy and showing our emotions. Behind the development of political postures, "The personalisation of politics" intends to analyse changes in relation to politics, and perhaps to understand what some are seeing as a crisis in democratic representation. During the Second World War, the Germans sent countless prisoners to stalags in the USSR. At the end of the War, most prisoners were dispersed into labour camps by the Soviet authorities, who needed men to rebuild the country. In the midst of the Cold War, these men were declared "missing" by the Russian government and no contact with Western countries was tolerated or authorised. Families and foreign governments often thought them dead. Gaston Boissac is one of those prisoners. Held in the Soviet Union since 1945, neither his family, his fiancée, nor the mayor of the small town of Soulières where he was born ever received any of the numerous letters he sent them. Many believed he was missing and his name was even engraved on the village's Monument to the Dead. But when Gorbatchev came to power in 1989 and implemented economic reforms, relations between East and West considerably improved. And that is how, in 1989, at 70 years of age, Gaston Boissac finally returned to Soulières. A very moving return for the entire village... Directed by: Francis Girod, 2006 Screenplay: Philippe Madral Cast: Claude Brasseur (Gaston Boissac), Marie-José Nat (Geneviève Ferrand), Mathieu Bisson (François), Macha Petina (Marina), Benoît Allemane (Antoine Boissac), Jean-Paul Zennacker (the mayor) Genre: Drama
