From Delhi to Paris, by way of Amsterdam and Jaipur

        Programme:

        India
At the beginning of the 16th century, India is split into many kingdoms, led by Hindu sovereigns, the Maharajas. And with diamond mining, the country lives its finest hour. The history of the Maharajas blends with that of India and the princes from Central Asia who, in the 16th century, invade the Indian subcontinent and establish the Mughal Empire.

        Dutch Golden Age
In the midst of the Dutch Golden Age. The Netherlands, at that time known as the United Provinces, is the smallest country in Europe but the largest trading power in the world. Amsterdam becomes the city of choice for diamond merchants, tailors and the most prestigious goldsmiths. This boom is the impetus behind the golden age of Dutch painting.

        Paris under the second empire
Under the Second Empire, Empress Eugénie is the epitome of French elegance. The wife of Napoleon III is renowned for her taste in jewellery and fashion. It is the era of imperial celebrations and cocottes, international exhibitions and crinoline, boulevard theatres and international exhibitions, the birth of the Place Vendôme - the epicentre of Parisian luxury - and, above all, the Paris that we know today.
